Sure you have! This might be up there with the Nigerian Prince who desperately needs your help.
The problem is, to an internet marketing novice this might actually sound legit. So much so that you might even want to call your current internet marketer and ask why aren’t we doing this.
Well Paul, I hate to burst your bubble, but your sales pitch is drastically over exaggerated, totally misleading, and about 4 months behind the times.
Google has ended last fall’s test involving large brand banner ads on Google.com. Amit Singhal, Google’s head of search, confirmed the experiment was OVER in his keynote at SMX West in San Jose, California in March 2014.
Some Background on Banner Ads in Google Search Results
Google started the test in October 2013 with roughly 30 brands (It was completely limited to these 30 premium brands). The banners ads appeared at the top of brand search results in the U.S. only and for just a small subset of searches. At the time of the announcement Singhal did not go into detail about what constituted failure in this test, but its possible the click-through rates on the banners were lower than desired or they realized how bad of an idea it was. Additionally I should also note, when the branded banners displayed, no other AdWords ads appeared on the page. So I am guessing that the loss of income was the straw that broke the camels back.
The test marked a first for Google, not only in the introduction of banners in the search results, but in presenting ads that were explicitly branding- rather than performance-oriented. Participating brands included The Home Depot, Southwest Airlines and The Sports Authority.
